Measure your under-stairs in 5 minutes

Three little measurements are all it takes to turn the space under your stairs into a child's secret den. Grab a tape measure — here's exactly what to jot down.

1

What you'll need

Work in centimetres, and measure each one twice — stairs are rarely perfectly square, and a second look saves fabric later.

2

The three measurements

the stair string B · tall side C · short side A · opening width
measure to the stair string — the sloped board the curtain fixes to
AOpening widthStraight across the floor, from the tall wall to the far side of the opening.
BTall sideThe full height on the tall side — floor up to the string where the curtain will fix.
CShort sideThe height at the low end. Often this is 0 (the stairs meet the floor) — if so, just write 0.
